The Quiet Between Trees
+
A narrow road exhales into mist,
trees incline, deliberate, almost knowing,
the air gathers an unnamed
presence,
and the world releases its weight.
++
Footsteps dissolve before they arrive,
not sound, but a thinning of being,
the earth breathing upward through you,
time loosening its quiet
grip.
++
Leaves remember the act of falling,
rusted whispers under each step,
they do not resist the ground,
they enter it, endlessly becoming.
++
Light fractures into a softened green,
thought dimming into something
sacred,
each branch suspends the need for noise,
each shadow opening
without edge.
++
You walk, and are slowly unmade,
silence deepening into a form,
your breath aligning with what cannot be seen,
your name loosening from
its shape.
++
Then the cold arrives without warning,
not absence, but a sharpened
clarity,
a lucid stillness settles in bone,
and you remain –
radiant, and erased.
