VIOLETS AND ROSES
…before poppies and vines illuminated the brow of summer,
before, long before, I saw your soul;
[it was, as you came, light crying out, permeating the avenue with a thirst for love,
for life]
…and thus it wounded me, like dawn illuminating the sea with all the fires,
forges and instruments in which the spirit drinks and is;
therefore, feeling pure fire burning upon its rim,
my strength was immolated seeing you in me, pure and ablaze;
…oh beloved, I name and commemorate you today;
my mind and heart see you and keep you pure;
do not fear, then, and remember me;
and if in you glimpse my soul, in it you will hear, and hear, that I love you;
[…in his sacred crypts, man keeps the bread that will sustain the furies
or gods of his house;
…therefore, and now, with no turning back, where shall I place the violets!
But above all, tell me, my most beloved, where and how can I establish roses for you!
