DISSECTION
…when the river is liquid, flowing light, pure fire,
and the body, jade and mother-of-pearl, gliding beneath the blazing sun,
ah, then, what is the soul,
what is the spirit;
…because one attends to one's business:
one gets up, showers, has breakfast, and ventures into the jungle, is attacked by a leopard,
kills the leopard and remains wounded, coughs, returns and gathers one's children,
the phone rings and one cries, then laughs, groans, finally eats dinner,
and like a weary, dismembered dog,
one throws oneself in front of the television;
…and the river continues burning, and the light flowing, flowing and burning, and going away,
and so one instant and another instant and so, in tension, eternity:
everything due,
everything in delay;
…shuddered by death,
and once again, waiting—
soul and spirit embrace, kiss, and tremble.
