Imperfect

Lonely days; the only thing I had before you came into my life

It hadn’t been easy from the start

But I believed we could overcome the blues and survive

Cause no one ever measured up to you, I saw myself heading for a fairy-tale for the first time

So I laid out my cards on the table, let you know I fell for you

The heartache almost broke me in two

You found it hard at first to leave

The one you once chose

Chorus:

Cause no one measured up to you, I took a leap of faith

Made myself believe, there could be a happy ending for us two

I threw myself in the way of possible heartbreak for someone scared of being seen

I admit, I was lusting for

proving the whole world and myself

That I am capable of trusting

It’s something you should never have to say

but I wish I’d have kept my wages on the shelf

When you told me, you felt the same, I thought it was okay to raise my game

I found you were special in so many ways; honest, creative, not lacking in sincerity

By the same token you have never been who you pretended to be

It’s so twisted; how is it possible to open up to someone that hides their wounds so desperately?

You were scared of ending up on your own

Isn’t it ironic, that because of this you ended up all alone?

Chorus:

Cause no one measured up to you, I took a leap of faith

Made myself believe, there could be a happy ending for us two

I threw myself in the way of possible heartbreak for someone scared of being seen

I was ready to open up and let the whole world see

That I too can be happy

It’s something you should never have to say

but I wish I had kept my wages on the shelf

You can only loose if you bet on someone to treat you with respect

Who lacks the compassion to love themselves

Bridge:

Hey you, I’ll let you in on a secret,

I could have loved the imperfect you

Show me the perfect human being, and I’ll show you something untrue

This relationship wasn’t only about you and your insecurities

Can’t you understand, your actions affect me too?

With tears in my eyes I try to accept my losses

But it feels as if I have to bury a dream almost coming true

‘Cause the only one I could ever imagine spending the rest of my days with was you

Chorus:

Cause no one measured up to you, I took a leap of faith

Whole-heartedly believed, there could be a happy ending for us two

I threw myself in the way of possible heartbreak for someone scared of being seen

I was ready to open up and let the whole world see

That I as well am able to find happiness

It’s something you should never have to say

but I wish I had kept my wages on the shelf

You can only loose if you bet on someone to treat you with respect

Who lacks the compassion to love themselves

But you were everything, everything, everything, I wanted

So flawed and still captivating

So dumb to lie about your shortcomings

You’ll end up not even remembering who you once were

If you can’t find your way back soon, you’ll lose yourself

I threw myself in the way of possible heartbreak for someone scared of being seen

I was ready to open up and let the whole world see

That I too can find happiness

It’s something you should never have to say

but I wish I had kept my wages on the shelf
