Daughter gets dad new study Bible for Father's Day

Brianna and her 14-year-old daughter, Bri, didn’t want to wait until the last minute to purchase a Father’s Day gift for Brian, Bri’s dad.

“I’m so glad dad is my father,” said Bri, a month before Father’s Day. “He’s the best dad in the world. You and dad have always taken me to church and taught me about the Lord Jesus Christ. I know dad is the church‘s pastor, so I guess there was no chance you would be leaving me at home. I‘m glad that you did bring me to church so that I could learn about the God and how much He loves me.”

“What would you like to get your father for Father’s Day?,” asked Brianna.

“I want to get him a brand new study Bible,” said Bri. “He has been talking about how badly he needs one.”

Bri continued, “I’m going to make sure he never forgets who got the Bible for him.”

“How are you going to do that?,” asked Brianna.

“For one thing, I’m going to make sure the Bible has a beautiful pink cover,” Bri bragged. “Dad will probably be the only pastor in town with a pink Bible cover.”

“I would say you are right,” said Brianna. “What else are you going to do?”

“I’m going to have it engraved with dark black ink,” replied Bri. “It’s going to say, ‘To the world’s best dad, from Bri, the world’s best daughter.”

Bri told her mom that she also planned to highlight John 3:16. “At the top of that page, I’m going to write, ‘Bri’s fave verse,’” she said.

Brianna was impressed with her daughter’s resourcefulness. “I don’t think there’s any way your dad will be able to forget who got the Bible for him,” Brianna said.

“Or that it Is from the world’s greatest daughter,” joked Bri.

The following morning, Brian preached a sermon about God’s love. “My scripture for today is John 3:16,” he said, turning to his text.

Brian observed his daughter’s note at the top of the page. With a smile, he read Bri’s handwritten note, ‘Bri’s fave verse.’”

“John 3:16 is my favorite verse, too,” Brian said. “What I’d like to know is how you knew that I would be preaching from that verse this morning.”

Bri smiled at her dad and said, “Well, you do know that you’re not the only one with whom the Lord communicates, right?”

“You’re right, of course,” said Brian sheepishly. “But sometimes I get the big head and think I’m the only one who is listening.”
