Dear Klaus,
when I read you comment I immideatetly listened to that song in youtube. What memories arrose! He was the first and almost only star (when I was still at school) I have ever adored from the late fifties until today.
And you are right, it wouldn't be good to forget a former lover. But at the moment you are left alone and it hurts so much you hope to forget. Years later the memory is sweet and melancholy.
